Charles Lucke was born in New York City, grew up in Connecticut and currently lives in Hercules, CA. His first photography slide show was the result of a trip to Europe when he road on the back of a Vespa motor scooter, at age 17, through seven countries in 21 days. He has been a freelance photographer since the early 1970s. His work has been published nationally and internationally and is permanently displayed at a Kaiser facility in San Leandro, CA. He has won a number of awards, including two Best of Show awards at the Marin County Fair and one at the Frank Bette Center for the Arts in Alameda, CA. Two photographers who have influenced him are Ruth Bernhard, who emphasized seeing the light, and Gordon Parks, because Parks fearlessly accomplished so much during his life.
